Recently, a domestic research team published the results of the project on "Analysis of the Clinical Efficacy of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field in the Treatment of Primary Insomnia" in the Chinese Journal of Modern Neurological Diseases, which clinically verified that pulsed magnetic therapy is an ideal non-drug treatment for patients with primary insomnia.
Primary insomnia, also known as psychophysiological insomnia, is a common sleep disorder in clinical practice. Long-term chronic insomnia can lead to cognitive decline such as attention and calculation, as well as anxiety and depression, which seriously endangers the physical and mental health of patients and reduces the quality of life. Although primary insomnia can significantly improve sleep quality in the short term, the long-term application effect is poor, and drug addiction and drug resistance are prone to occur, so it is very important to explore safe and effective non-drug therapies for insomnia patients.
From January to December 2021, the team of Tian Yayun, Wang Mingwei and Ma Qinying, Department of Neurology, First Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Hebei Provincial Key Laboratory of Brain Aging and Cognitive Neuroscience, together with the Department of Encephalopathy of Qinhuangdao Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Hebei Province, launched the project of "Clinical Efficacy Analysis of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field in the Treatment of Primary Insomnia" by using the SMIS pulsed magnetic sleep therapy machine developed and produced by Qinhuangdao Huisi Ample Medical System Co., Ltd., to provide a new way for the clinical treatment of primary insomnia. The project has been included in the Hebei Provincial Natural Science Foundation funded project and the Hebei Provincial Geriatric Disease Prevention and Treatment Project.
Based on the principle of bionic pulsed magnetic resonance, combined with ultra-low-frequency electromagnetic introduction technology and space electromagnetic field control technology, through the reorganization of multiple groups of pulse emission source arrays, the ultra-low-frequency pulsed electromagnetic field is emitted, and 3~15Hz variable frequency harmonics are generated, which simulates the EEG law of the sleep process, forms an induced current in the brain, and triggers the sleep center The pulsed electromagnetic field can also directly act on the central nervous system through the skull, reduce the metabolism of brain tissue and the excitability of the cerebral cortex, and gradually alleviate the high arousal state of the cerebral cortex in insomnia patients. With the stimulation, the magnetic field gradually transitions from simulating the EEG rhythm during wakefulness and relaxation to simulating the EEG rhythm during deep sleep, the excitability of neurons decreases, and the inhibitory effect of neurons dominates, which plays a role in promoting sleep and regulating sleep disorders.

The researchers randomized 120 patients with primary insomnia admitted to the First Hospital of Hebei Medical University with conventional treatment combined with sham stimulation (control group) and conventional treatment combined with pulsed electromagnetic field stimulation (PEMFs group), and the pulsed electromagnetic field stimulation was applied to the SMIS pulsed magnetic sleep therapy machine of Wysamp. Before treatment and 2 weeks after treatment, the investigators used the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to evaluate sleep quality and the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) to evaluate insomnia severity.
The results of clinical studies have shown that both conventional treatment and conventional treatment combined with pulsed electromagnetic field therapy can improve patients' sleep quality (PSQI score) and insomnia degree (ISI score), especially the effect of conventional treatment combined with pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, especially in sleep quality, sleep onset time, sleep time, etc., and no serious adverse reactions occurred during the treatment, indicating that pulsed electromagnetic field treatment for primary insomnia is safe and effective. Studies have confirmed that pulsed electromagnetic field, as a non-invasive physical therapy method, is safe and effective in the treatment of primary insomnia, and can effectively improve sleep quality, which is an ideal non-drug treatment for patients with primary insomnia.
